The Sheffield Chamber Music Festival has just released it’s programme for the 2024 festival – it’s 40th anniversary. As Music in the Round’s ensemble in residence, Ensemble 360 will play a large part in bringing this exciting programme to life.

Tim Horton’s showcase solo piano recital will be at Kettle’s Yard in Cambridge on Thursday 16th March.

His programme focuses on contemporary works that “look to the past for answers to the future”. Thomas Adès pays homage to Chopin in his Three Mazurkas, Op. 27, while Julian Philips’s Barcarola transports the audience to an intimate 19th-century salon, but with a modern and somewhat unsettling take on the tradition of the ‘boat song’. Helen Grime’s 10 Miniatures throw new light on a form that has been popular amongst composers for centuries, as she explores the idea of transforming material in unusual ways, each mini character piece based on some small fragment of what came before.

Tashmina Artists Rachel Roberts (viola), Tim Horton (piano) and Robert Plane (clarinet) appear with Ensemble 360 in various combinations for four BBC Radio 3 Lunchtime Concerts this week.

Presented by BBC Radio 3’s Sarah Walker, the programmes draw from concerts in November 2022 at Cast Doncaster, Emmanuel Church Barnsley and Sheffield’s Upper Chapel, recorded as part of Music in the Round’s autumn series.

Pianist Tim Horton looks forward to making three appearances at the Kirker Music Festival in Tenerife between 14th and 18th November, including a solo piano recital centred on the music of Chopin.

Tim Horton looks forward to the next instalment of his Chopin cycle for Music in the Round, including the performance taking place at Sheffield’s Crucible Playhouse on Friday 2nd December.

Having embarked on the cycle in November last year, Tim has now reached the third programme in his six-concert cycle focused on the music of Frédéric François Chopin, which he is performing in four different locations for Music in the Round. The programme features Chopin’s Two Nocturnes Op. 27, Three Mazurkas Op. 59, and Sonata No. 3 in B minor Op. 58, as well as music by Robert Schumann and Karlheinz Stockhausen.

It’s the first rehearsal for Huw’s Piano Trio today. What a privilege to hear a piece for the very first time that has been specially written for us (Leonore Trio). It will be premiered at Presteigne Festival in August. Thanks Huw!

North Norfolk Music Festival: Norfolk

Friday 26th November sees Tim Horton in concert for Music in the Round in Sheffield, the first in a series of six solo piano recitals centred on the music of Chopin.

BBC Radio 3: Cardiff

Tim will give an online recital at the Ulverston Music Festival on 25th April playing music by Chopin and Debussy.

The Leonore Piano Trio will give a concert at Conway Hall on Sunday 14th March. They will play Trios by Haydn, Bargiel and Beethoven.
