Tim Horton and Ivana Gavrić (Lomonaco Artists) return to the Crucible in Sheffield on 26th February to perform a two piano recital for Music in the Round.
Their performance in the same series last year featured works for two pianos by Russian composers and was described by Bachtrack as “piano playing at its most brutal and visceral… compelling”.
Since this performance, both pianists have individually enjoyed considerable success – Tim’s ongoing Chopin cycle at Wigmore Hall continues to gain critical acclaim, and Ivana’s album Throwback to Dance! has been welcomed by the press, with Gramophone writing that “it’s hard to imagine any aficionado of the piano not looking forward to hearing more of the artistic playing of Gavrić”.
For their concert in February, the duo turn their attention to symphonic dances from the early twentieth century. Debussy’s En blanc et noir, written at the outbreak of World War 1, opens the programme, and will be followed by La Valse, Ravel’s tribute to the waltz. The concert closes with Rachmaninov’s Symphonic Dances, op. 45, the composer’s final major composition and the only work to be entirely written by Rachmaninov during his time living in the United States.
The concert takes place on Thursday 26th February at 7:00pm, and will be recorded by BBC Radio 3 for future broadcast. Further details may be found by following the link below.
