Celebrated pianist Tim Horton returns to perform with Sheffield’s Brigantes Orchestra on 9th October, as part of their recently announced 2026-27 season, ‘Musical Journeys through Time’.
Through six programmes over the course of the season, the orchestra follows ideas that endure throughout time as they resurface in new expressions across the ages. Works by composer from Bach to Britten and Haydn to Lutosławski are placed in dialogue, reflecting the way in which musical themes are reinvented by diverse voices throughout music history. The season marks the 50th anniversary of the death of Benjamin Britten and foreshadows Beethoven’s centenary in 2027, and sees the orchestra engage with its community in a concert for local school children.
Following the success of his performance of Grieg’s Piano Concerto in A minor with the Brigantes Orchestra last year, Tim will perform Rachmaninov’s Rhapsody on the Theme of Paganini and Lutosławski’s Variations on a Theme by Paganini with the orchestra as part of their programme Variations. Taking place at Sheffield Cathedral on 9th October at 7:30pm, this programme opens the season, and takes the musical form of theme and variations as its inspiration.
